The Story of the Logos
The Old School Muslim Logo
The OSM Logo represents simplicity, strength, pride: a proud Muslim that is humble before Allah in sujood.
The position of sujood reflects the attitude of the believer toward his Creator. He submits his whole self and this is indicated by the most humble act of placing the head on the ground. The heart is elevated above the brain for it is through the heart that the Divine can be realized. Allah subhanahu wa t'ala says, "On that day nothing will benefit the human being, neither wealth nor children, only the one who brings Allah a sound heart."
The MELS Logo
The MELS acronym stands for Muslim Education and Literary Services. The word ‘mel in Latin means ‘honey’. It is no coincidence that the logo of MELS is therefore comprised of honeycombs. Both bees and honey are mentioned repeatedly in the Qur’an and Sunnah. The Qur’an speaks of the intricacies of the honeycomb and of honey as a ‘healing for humankind’.
“And thy Lord inspired the bee, saying: Choose thou habitations in the hills and in the trees and in that which they thatch.
Then eat of all fruits, and follow the ways of thy Lord, made smooth (for thee). There cometh forth from their bellies a drink divers of hues, wherein is healing for mankind. Lo! herein is indeed a portent for people who reflect.”
(Surah An-Nahl, Verses 68-69)
